Sebastian König

Manager and Producer, WDR Sinfonieorchester

Sebastian König has been the manager of the WDR Symphony Orchestra since 2020. He is responsible for up to 100 concerts a year in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia and throughout Germany, as well as at international festivals, most recently at the BBC Proms or the Enescu Festival in Bucharest. Innovative concert formats such as ‘Happy Hour’, digital formats such as ‘Traumwandler’, radio and CD productions complete his field of activity.

Prior to this, Sebastian König was orchestra manager of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin for 13 years. From 2004 to 2007, he was managing director and member of the board of directors of the Neuköllner Oper in Berlin.

Born in Hanover, he studied law at the University of Bremen and the Free University of Berlin as well as musicology at the Humboldt University in Berlin. He also devoted himself passionately to singing and worked in opera dramaturgy in Berlin and Hamburg.
