Hermann Bäumer

Hermann Bäumer has been General Music Director for 20 years - from 2011 to 2025 in Mainz, before that from 2004 to 2011 in Osnabrück. From the start of the 2025/26 season, he will be Music Director of the Prague State Opera.

Bäumer has conducted the Sächsische Staatskapelle, the orchestras of the Komische Oper Berlin, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Norwegian State Opera, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian State Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble Modern, the New Japan Philharmonic and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, among others. He was also Conductor in Residence of the Hofer Symphoniker until 2025.

Bäumer not only impresses with concerts - in 2018/19 he was awarded the prize for the best concert programme - but also proves himself to be an accomplished opera conductor. Highlights include Wagner's 'Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg', Langgaard's 'Antikrist' (DE), Nono's 'Al gran sole carico d'amore', Dusapin's 'Perelà' - whose German and Swiss première he conducted - and Weinberg's 'Die Passagierin'.
