Rodrigo Sámano

Rodrigo Sámano made his debut as a conductor in 2018 in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. Since then, he has conducted orchestras such as the LPO, RSO Vienna, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra.

Over the years he has taken part in masterclasses with Marin Alsop, Sian Edwards, Daniele Gatti and Johannes Schlaefli. He completed his bachelor's degree as a cellist in Spain; he then moved to Vienna in 2018 to study orchestral and choral conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts there. After graduating, he was honoured with the Appreciation Award of the Year 2023.

In 2025 he was invited to the Critical Orchestra of the Conducting Forum and was a semi-finalist of the Herbert von Karajan YCA. This season he has assisted Marie Jacquot with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Finnegan Downie Dear with the Staatskapelle Berlin. As one of the winners of ICCR 2025, he will conduct various orchestras, e.g. the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the 18th Century and Klangforum Wien.
