Johann-Sebastian Guzman

Johann-Sebastian Guzman, Miami-born to Colombian parents, began violin at 4 and later studied piano. In high school, he discovered a passion for conducting through small opera and musical theater productions.

He earned a Bachelor's in Piano Performance from the University of Miami under Tian Ying. Johann has worked with Daniel Harding, Gustavo Dudamel, Karina Canellakis, Lahav Shani, and Andrés Orozco-Estrada at institutions like the Vienna State Opera, Orchestre de Paris, and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. He has guest conducted at Opera and Philharmonia Podlaska (West Side Story), the Webern Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia. He won 2nd prize at the 2023 Colombian National Conducting Competition and 3rd prize at the 2025 Wallonie-Liège International Opera Competition. Currently Musical Director of the Technical University Orchestra in Vienna, he will debut with La Traviata in Bogotá and with Filarmed in 2025.
